PC STEM: Week of 12/07/2009-12/11/2009

Hello, STEM Scholars:

Here are a few announcements for the close of Fall 2009.  The next post will likely be sent at the start of Spring 2010.  You will receive posts on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. You can access the blog anytime at pcstem.blogspot.com

  • Don't forget!  The STEM Scholars Open House Breakfast is tommorow Tuesday, December 8 in the Vista Room of the PC Fannin Library (2nd floor).  Continental breakfast goodies are on the menu!  Come and go as you can between 7:30am-12noon.   If you haven't RSVP'ed and would like to drop by, please contact Valerie today.
  • Check out our web page at www.phoenixcollege.edu/stem.   Info on applying to the program and STEM careers has been posted.  Look for future additions to be web site.
  • The first workshop for Spring 2010 will take place on either Tuesday, January 26 or Thursday, January 28.  The workshop will address writing a statement of purpose. Statements of purpose are usually mandatory for scholarships, internships and graduate/professional school.  A well-crafted statement of purpose could tip you into the "yes" column.  And who wouldn't want that?  Vote for the date here: http://www.doodle.com/xs7trwtu6mbh8wpr
  • Our second workshop will feature a scientist who will address the importance of good communication skills and STEM careers in general.   The date is TBD.
  • Would you like a say in future programming?  Are you interested in taking a tour of T-Gen next spring?  Click on this link here:  www.surveymonkey.com/s/9XTM25C
  • We may implement an Early Alert system for our STEM Scholars next semester.  A detailed e-mail will be sent to you in early January.  Also, you're welcome to discuss this with Valerie at the STEM Breakfast or at a later date.
  • Have you recently moved?  Changed your cell phone number or your e-mail address?  Please let us know so that we can keep the lines of communication open.
Good luck on finals and Happy Holidays!
