Arizona Education Consortium Scholarship
The Arizona Education Consortium (AEC) is a non-profit association of school leaders from Arizona's colleges and universities. Each year AEC awards two $1,000 scholarships; one in September and another in January. The deadline for the January scholarship is January 8, 2010. For more information, visit the web site.

- Don't forget! The STEM Scholars Open House Breakfast is tommorow Tuesday, December 8 in the Vista Room of the PC Fannin Library (2nd floor). Continental breakfast goodies are on the menu! Come and go as you can between 7:30am-12noon. If you haven't RSVP'ed and would like to drop by, please contact Valerie today.
- Check out our web page at www.phoenixcollege.edu/stem. Info on applying to the program and STEM careers has been posted. Look for future additions to be web site.
- The first workshop for Spring 2010 will take place on either Tuesday, January 26 or Thursday, January 28. The workshop will address writing a statement of purpose. Statements of purpose are usually mandatory for scholarships, internships and graduate/professional school. A well-crafted statement of purpose could tip you into the "yes" column. - Our second workshop will feature a scientist who will address the importance of good communication skills and STEM careers in general. The date is TBD.

STEM Fall 2009 Get-Together
The STEM Scholars had their first get-together on October 27! After partaking of gourmet sandwiches and a rousing game of STEM Bingo, a panel of Ursa Majors students shared advice on how to be a successful STEM major at Phoenix Colleges. We received good feedback from the STEM Scholars on the program--and the food! Many thanks to Alexandria Palomino, Rebecca Jama and Joaquin Santecchia-Ribas for serving on the panel Make sure to read our blog to find out about future events! AHETEMS: Internship and Scholarship Opportunities
AHETEMS stands for Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science. This non-profit organization offers internship and scholarship opportunities for Latino students. Scholarship applications for the 2010-2011 academic year will open January 2010; applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2010.

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP)
SMDEP is a free six week summer academic enrichment program for freshman and sophomore students who are interested in a career in medicine or dentistry. The goal of the program is to prepare aspiring freshmen and sophomores to be competitive applicants for medical and dental school. The application deadline is March 1, 2010.
